Safety Precautions While Riding
Use hand signals before making turns or changing lanes. This will help to alert other road users of your intentions.
Be aware of your surroundings and watch out for obstacles. This includes things like potholes, cracks in the pavement, and debris.
Slow down when approaching intersections and other areas where there is potential for conflict. This will give you more time to react if something unexpected happens.
Be prepared to brake suddenly. This could be necessary if you see a hazard or if another road user does something unexpected.
Don’t ride too close to other vehicles or cyclists. This gives you more space to maneuver if necessary.
Be aware of your speed. Riding too fast can make it difficult to control your bicycle.
Take breaks if you’re feeling tired. Riding a bicycle is a physically demanding activity, so it’s important to take breaks when you need them.
Always wear a properly fitted helmet. A helmet can help to protect your head in the event of a crash.
Wear bright clothing that makes you visible to other road users. This is especially important when riding at night.
Use lights and reflectors. Lights and reflectors will make you more visible to other road users, even in low-light conditions.
Be assertive. Don’t be afraid to take the lane when you need to. This will help to keep you safe from cars that may try to pass you too closely.
Be aware of your surroundings. Pay attention to what’s going on around you, both on the road and off. This will help you to avoid hazards and other potential problems.
